Burton Escapade Snowboard Binding - Women's

Do these require a major breaking in time? When the bindings came, the ankle straps were stuffed in the back of the bindings and were bent (not curved). Even the plastic thing that holds the ankle strap were bent. I took them out for a day of riding today, and the straps really squeezed both sides of my feet, so badly, that I could not ride the lift anymore after a few hours. Are what I got defective, or the straps require a few days of breaking in time?
